Roy Franklin Fleming was a man of extraordinary interests and capabilities. Born in 1878 in Derby Township, Roy came from a family that valued education and perseverance. Coming of age at the turn of the 19^th century, Roy got his start in education as an elementary school teacher in Ontario, and used this as a springboard to support him in learning about art and art instruction at the New York School of Art and other schools. He had careers as an art educator, a photographer, an art critic, a historian and writer; he was an accomplished watercolour artist, and adept as a carpenter and house builder.  This article reviews his life, interests, and principal accomplishments.
